We’re proud that our proprietary Safe Hub platform has support features to cover a full range of lone working scenarios. Safe Hub is a BS8484 2016 Gold Certified system which is simple for lone workers to use and gives support in real-world situations. In this series of blogs, we want to highlight how to make best use of these features. This time we’re dealing with the newest: Group Alert.
It’s a fact of modern life that many events may throw off the normal course of a working day. Sometimes it’s as simple as a traffic jam caused by a broken-down vehicle. Sometimes it’s a power outage in a particular area. But at other times, there may be a major disruptive event which causes a city to grind to a halt.
More importantly, these major events could put lone, vulnerable or remote workers in potential danger. One of the best ways to protect your lone workers is to keep them out of known trouble spots. Our Group Alert feature is a way to warn groups of your workers of the hazards they might face – and how to avoid them.
A Safe Hub solution for a range of real-life circumstances
With Group Alert, you can send critical alerts to workers in the event of an emergency. We developed this feature in response to demand from clients including the US utility, American Water. The company employs more than 6,700 dedicated professionals who provide drinking water, and wastewater to 15 million people across the US and Canada. American Water’s staff often work in remote locations in a variety of lone working roles. The company wanted a system to enable managers to immediately contact lone workers to advise of potential hazards such as extreme weather.
Client and end-user needs are at the heart of LWS’s approach. We continually innovate to meet those specific and changing needs, and improve our lone worker protection systems. Our integrated Safe Hub platform supports multiple devices and individual users’ protocols. And critically, Safe Hub provides team leaders with one comprehensive management interface. As our newest innovative feature, Group Alert is the perfect complement to our emergency, reactive and proactive support features.
Dealing with life’s unpredictability
There are plenty of circumstances when Group Alert comes into its own. For instance, there might be a terror alert or attack in a particular area. Another example would be a natural disaster, or an extreme weather event. Even though many of your workers may get to hear about extreme events via social media, our advanced communications technologies provide a surer way of getting through to them. And the feature works on a range of our lone worker safety devices and apps.
The strength of Group Alert is that you can tailor your message. This means you can take into account who your lone workers are, and where they might be. You can target messages to specific individual lone workers or pre-defined groups, if there is a particular job function which is at risk from an event. Or you can limit the message geographically, by specifying that the message goes out to lone workers within a given radius from a particular central point.
