Our SOS Fob lone worker safety device is discreet, durable – and popular with clients

SOS Fob is a powerful lone worker safety device, and it's discreet, durable, and easy to use

We know that, for an organisation looking to protect its lone workers, there are many considerations. It’s vital to have a device that’s durable and reliable, and that can be used in a range of risk scenarios by different groups of lone workers. For some of the staff, discretion may be of the utmost importance, as they’re on the frontline with service users. It’s also essential to have help close at hand, so a wearable device might be crucial. That’s why we’re so proud of our SOS Fob.

Powerful technologies, practical accessories

SOS Fob is the perfect personal device for lone workers. It’s a BS8484:2016 Gold Certified specialist lone working device. It deploys two key technologies. Global Positioning System (GPS) can locate your lone worker in an emergency. And Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) allows workers to speak directly to operatives at the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). We work hard to maximise signal coverage even in areas of poor reception, including rural and coastal areas. We can supply SOS Fob with a roaming multi-network SIM. And we’ve just introduced a 4G version of the SOS Fob to increase connectivity further.

SOS Fob is discreet, durable, waterproof and lightweight. What’s more, it fits perfectly (and practically) into your workers' lives. Thanks to our range of wearable accessories, it can be clipped into a specially moulded identity badge, worn in an arm-band or wristband, or clipped to a belt. Otherwise, it can simply be carried in a pocket.

A wide range of lone worker safety features

However they choose to carry SOS Fob, lone workers have immediate access to a range of safety features. Red Alert provides emergency help. By pressing the prominent central SOS button, lone workers can open a call to the highly trained staff at an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). These operatives then assess the situation and dispatch the appropriate help to the worker. With Yellow Alert, a lone worker can leave a voice memo message with salient details that could save valuable time in the event of an emergency.

The reactive Worker Down feature uses motion and shock sensors within the device to register an impact or a lack of movement which might indicate an accident. This triggers an automatic alert at the ARC, where staff will try to contact the worker, and will provide help if they are unresponsive. And overarching all these safety features is GPS Locate; Safe Hub captures GPS location data in real time, accurate to within 2.5 metres, to provide a picture of where workers are at any given time.

Sometimes lone workers are concerned about what will happen if they trigger an alert by accident. Indeed, it can prevent them from using lone worker safety devices in the first place. With SOS Fob, this need not be a concern. Users can deactivate an accidental alert by simply pressing the SOS button within 10 seconds. This reduces nuisance alarms – and our experience shows that it directly increases adoption of devices by lone workers in their everyday safety practice.

Clients across all economic sectors have chosen SOS Fob

SOS Fob is our most popular lone worker safety device. We’ve got consistently good feedback from lone workers on the ground using the device on a daily basis in a range of economic sectors. This includes a roster of major clients such as Centrica, Bristol Water, Essex County Council, NHS Trusts and Wessex Water. Collectively, these organisations have deployed over 10,000 SOS Fob devices across the UK – and counting.

In two sectors in particular, SOS Fob has been given the seal of approval. In the health sector, SOS Fob is now available through the NHS Supply Chain Framework within the personal safety alarms product category. As a result, NHS agencies, private-sector healthcare providers, and the wider public sector can follow a simplified procurement process to deploy SOS Fob. And in the housing sector, we’re a nominated supplier within the Procurement for Housing (PfH) Framework. This makes it easier for social housing providers, local authorities or housing arm’s length management organisations to procure SOS Fob and our other lone worker safety devices and apps.
