Safe Hub exhibits at CIH Housing 2018, Stand C52

‘It’s safe as houses’. This is a well-known way of putting someone’s mind at rest when it comes to risk. But it doesn't extend to how employers should assess the risks which lone workers face in the housing and property sector. Safe Hub is here to offer them the broadest possible range of support and protection.

Lone working in the housing and property sector

Housing Associations, estate agencies and property management firms must all develop sound policies that codify their organisation's rules and regulations around lone working. The UK Health and Safety Executive defines lone workers as "those who work by themselves without close or direct supervision", and this very directly covers a lot of working roles in the housing and property sectors. Failure to do so can carry serious consequences.

The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007, defined the principle that a company can be deemed guilty of corporate manslaughter if there is a 'failure of the management system'. New sentencing guidelines came into force on 1 February 2016. The guidelines introduced a consistent approach to sentencing, ensuring fair and proportionate sentences for those who cause death or injury to their employees. The first prosecution resulted in the convicted company being fined ten percent of its annual turnover for a period of ten years.

These considerations all demonstrate the importance of developing a thorough and tailored system of lone worker protection. And that's where Safe Hub comes in. Different Safe Hub features give lone workers peace of mind, while simultaneously allowing managers to control risks and meet the requirements of health and safety legislation.

Safe Hub for housing sector lone workers

Safe Hub is an award-winning package of emergency, buddy, proactive, reactive, broadcast and virtual barrier protection for lone workers. The system supports lone and remote workers on the widest possible array mobile devices, including Android, Apple and Windows smartphones, BlackBerrys, standard mobiles, PCs, intrinsically safe devices, specialist personal safety devices and satellite phones.

Safe Hub provides rapid support and assistance in emergencies for team members when they are working alone or out of sight of colleagues. It connects staff to an Alarm Receiving Centre. We understand how varied lone working can be in the real world. It’s immediately obvious that some workers will frequently be working alone, or out-of-sight or earshot of colleagues. But some workers may only occasionally work alone, or may be in a customer-facing role which brings its own risks. And because we have a range of devices, services and apps, we can make bespoke packages for every organisation’s specific needs.
